Practical Application test

Shows whether extract is suitable for use on an actual agriculural product and whether the extract is baceriocidal.

Steps:

P. carotovorum culture was mixed with the extract or 0.85 % NaCl, as a control, in a ratio of 1:1. This was left at room temperature for 30 min. Lettuce and chye sim were cut into pieces of dimensions of 4 cm x 4 cm and swabbed with 10 μl of the test or control mixtures. Each piece was placed in a sterile Petri dish. 20 pieces was used for each test or control. The plates were placed in an incubator at 30°C. They were checked every few days for development of soft rot. The percentage of inhibition of soft rot on each piece of lettuce and chye sim was determined.
